  • misunderstood: the life & legacy of joseph

Author: Laura Ford.  Facilitator: Laura Ford.  Cost: $10. 6 weeks.

In this in-depth women's Bible study, author Laura K. Ford explores in detail the life and legacy of one of the most well-known Old Testament men in the Bible.  Despite being misunderstood in his day, and even by some who read his account today, Joseph's life and character embody the very height of integrity.  Not only does his life and testimony serve as an example for countless others to follow, but it also profoundly parallels the life of the greatest man to ever walk on the face of the earth - Jesus Christ.  Have you ever wondered why God has placed you in the  circumstances you are in?  Does His plan seem totally perplexing at times?  Joseph was a man who spent many years unable to see the plans God was divinely orchestrating in his life.  Yet instead of giving up entirely, he decided to trust God's perfect character and flawless faithfulness.  Despite being misunderstood, Joseph remained steadfast, and we can, too, as we reflect on God's plan not only for our lives, but for all humanity!  Six video teachings accompany this Bible study and can be accessed for free at www.laurakford.com.  This Bible study is designed for individual use as well as a group study.

  • how to develop a quiet time

Author: Eddie Rasnake.  Facilitators: Beth Smith & Kathy King.  Cost: $10. 9 weeks.

One of the greatest joys and comforts in a Christian's life comes through personal time spent with God.  What an awesome privilege it is to meet with Him every day! In Hebrews 10:19-22, we read, "Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water."  Because of what Jesus did on the cross 2000 years ago, we need not approach God in fear and trembling, for our hearts are sprinkled clean and our bodies washed.  The application is strong and unambiguous:  "LET US DRAW NEAR!" This study is a 40-day journey of structured devotions, guided prayer, and personal application.  Each week of study centers on an important element of a personal relationship with God.  Each day's study takes you to the Scriptures for guided self-discovery as it transitions toward the daily habit of quietly meeting with God.  This unique addition to the Following God Series will serve as an excellent jumpstart to anyone who has ever struggled with the concept of a daily quiet time with God.

  • Elijah

Author: Priscilla Shirer.  Facilitators: Cindy Leaphart & Kim True.  Cost: $10. 7 wks.

Old Testament heroes are best known for their most celebrated moments:  Moses dividing the Red Sea; David slaying Goliath; Gideon routing an insurmountable army; Joshua marching around the defiant walls of Jericho.  And Elijah - calling down fire on Mount Carmel.  Every serious believer longs to summon up the kind of boldness and faith that can stand firm on Mount Carmel and pray down heaven into impossible situations.  Yet few are willing to go through the process required to get them there.  Strength of faith, character, and boldness can be shaped only in the hidden fires of silence, sameness, solitude, and adversity.  Those who patiently wait on God in the darkness emerge with their holy loyalty cemented, their courage emblazoned, and their confident belief in Him set afire.  Join Priscilla Shirer on this journey through the life and times of the prophet  Elijah to discover how the fire on Mount Carmel was forged in the valley of famine.

  • 1 peter: a living hope in christ

Author: Jen Wilkin.  Facilitators: Sherry Rist & Pat Dykes.  Cost: $10. 9 weeks.

Our inheritance through Christ is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading.  In 1 Peter, a man of faith and flaws and eyewitness to the life of Christ challenges us to look beyond our current circumstances to a future inheritance.  He shares his concerns on big-picture issues for the early church, describes believers' true identity in Christ, and ultimately helps readers discover what it means to experience the Living Hope they have in Christ.  Key themes of humility, submission, and identity in Christ guide the study of 1 Peter as participants are challenged to read the book in its entirety each week.  Teaching videos are key to the understanding of this study.

Women's missionary union (WMU)

In 1888, a handful of Baptist Women dedicated to the cause of missions founded WMU. Since that time, WMU has become the largest Protestant organization for women in the world, with a membership of approximately 1 million.

Mount Zion has deep roots in WMU as well, forming their own WMU in 1914. We continue that tradition today with many age-level mission organizations. These organizations include Women on Mission, Girls of Grace Acteens, Girls in Action and Mission Friends.

For detailed information about WMU, contact Kenya Jernigan, MZBC WMU Director at kenya@posum.com

Women on Mission

Women on Mission for women ages 18 and up will equip Christian women to follow God’s call into missions awareness, action and advocacy. We pray together, fellowship, and serve in missions. We invite you to join us as we meet together to become more aware of how we can serve our Lord and how we can share His hope with a lost world.
